About Mr George Spyrou
Expertise: I am a board-certified Plastic Surgeon with 30 years of experience and over 20,000 procedures performed. My thirst and passion for knowledge together with the length of systematic hard work have resulted in the achievement of very high results.
Proportion: My result will aim to achieve proportion harmony and symmetry. Your outcome will not be an exaggerated one and you will not have the stigma of extreme plastic surgery. My reputation both as a reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon has blossomed due to a combination of factors based on a patient specific, proportionate and uniquely balanced approach. When this type of patient-centred approach is combined with up-to-date scientific knowledge, extensive training and years of experience together with distilled maturity, the end result is a direct benefit to you as the patient.
Personable: Your wishes will be discussed in great length. I will help you in making the right choices. My success is based on trying to reach the point of sensitivity and truthfulness. I always aim to create a comfortable Dr/patient rapport, invite questions and concerns you may have and in return I will give a thorough explanation of your condition and offer the appropriate solutions
Honest and Safe: I will only operate on you if your request is reasonable, the procedure is safe and the result predictable. I will never overpromise and in the unusual situation that I cannot meet your expectations, I will not carry any procedures on you and will do my best to direct you to the person who can help you the most. My main focus is you and I will do whatever I can to protect you.
Advanced knowledge and quality: I keep myself up-to-date with the latest innovations in Plastic surgery and only use techniques which are safe and work well. Every patient is different and deserves bespoke treatment as well as individual approach. Every treatment is tailored to meet your specific needs.
Dual Qualification: I am qualified as a Specialist Plastic Surgeon both in the UK and European Union. After having completed the appropriate training and passed the necessary examinations I was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCSEd), the Hellenic Boards of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (CCMSPlast-GR) as well as the European Boards of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS). My entry into the General Medical Council (GMC) as a specialist Plastic Surgeon was in 2005. I also hold a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) through my thesis in the management of scars.
I am a full member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), a full member of the prestigious European Plastic Surgery Workshop (EPSW), and a correspondent member of the Hellenic Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (HESPRAS) .

More information:
I chose plastic surgery as the specialty to follow in my early years as a medical student when I was diagnosed with melanoma. This diagnosis shaped my life and determined my future. It was the catalyst that created the person I am today.
I have been a Substantive NHS Consultant Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgeon for over 20 years. I undertake all aspects of cosmetic surgery and the main bulk of my work is aesthetic breast surgery, body contouring and facial surgery.
My experience in Plastic surgery has a 30-year span.
In aesthetic facial surgery, I have a special interest in blepharoplasties rhinoplasties and autologous fat transfer to improve facial contouring
For blepharoplasties (eyelid surgery for bag removal) I have developed specific and pioneering techniques in eyelid suspension which has culminated in great results. I have presented my techniques in various scientific meetings. I use these pioneering techniques in both cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery. I am the skin cancer lead in the Midyorks NHS Trust and routinely perform a great number of reconstructive facial work with the main focus around total eyelid reconstruction following resection for cancer. The experience that I have gained over decades of reconstructive work enables me to have mastered a very solid approach when it comes to cosmetic eyelid surgery.
For rhinoplasties I do offer a combined service with ENT surgeons to maximise cosmesis and function. I have developed this combined service in the NHS and offer exactly the same approach in the private sector.
For facial contouring I use the Sidney Coleman fat transfer approach for long lasting natural results. Fat from another part of the body is harvested and used to improve facial aesthetics
I also have a special interest in implant-based breast augmentation as well as breast uplifts and breast reductions. I was one of the very few surgeons who alerted MHRA (UK Health and Medicines Regulatory Body) with regards to the risks of aggressive textured silicone implants (ALCL) as early as 2014 when I reported the second case in the UK. Following that, I reported another case in 2016. As a result of my meticulous reports and of other plastic surgeons who really care about patients, these implants lost their CE mark in 2018. Currently I only use nanotextured breast implants which are not linked to ALCL.
I was also introduced to the technique of autologous fat breast augmentation in 2009 by Dr Ueberreiter who invented the technique in Berlin and then I mastered the procedure of autologous fat breast augmentation with great success in the UK.
In addition to all above, I perform body contouring surgery, arm lifts, tummy tucks and liposuction. I have been the bariatric lead in the Midyorks NHS Trust for massive weight loss patients and gained valuable experience through that role so I offer the indicated subtype of procedure for the condition presented. In abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) for example, I offer various additions or modifications apart from skin tightening including musculofascial reconstruction/tightening as well as targeted liposuction.
To date I have performed over 20,000 procedures in plastic surgery in both the NHS and privately. The breast procedures alone are over 2,000 as my experience in complex breast surgery has grown over the years.
I keep up to date with my general medical education, especially with the latest techniques in cosmetic facial/breast/body surgery by regularly attending courses, meetings and seminars in the UK, Europe and USA.
Apart from practicing Aesthetic at Spire Methley Park, I am also an NHS Consultant in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Midyorks NHS Trust. I hold a senior clinical post and I am also educational supervisor for junior doctors.
Recently and due to the long NHS waiting lists, skin cancer patients come to see me privately. The service I offer is exactly the same as in the NHS with one exemption. The patient journey is much shorter and the solution to the problem is given almost immediately so patients do not have to wait.
With regards to information about my qualifications I gained my basic medical qualification in Greece before relocating to the UK in 1992. After four years of basic training in general and plastic surgery, I qualified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 1996. Following that I undertook a pioneering research project in the management of scars at the University of Bradford. I submitted my thesis in 1998 and was awarded the higher degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) for my period of research. In 2003 I was awarded the European Boards of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Qualification (EBOPRAS) and I am licensed to practice in the EU as well as the UK.
My higher specialist training as a Specialist Registrar in Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery was carried out in Bradford, Leeds, Hull and Wakefield and I also spent periods in other specialist centres in London and Belgium.
Finally, I have had the privilege in 2006 to be one of the few selected to complete probably the most prestigious cosmetic fellowship in the UK at the Humana Wellington Hospital in London when I was taught the mystique of plastic surgery by the BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons) president at the time Mr Norman Waterhouse. Although that was 20 years ago, the principles of the patient centred approach together with solid surgical skills will echo for ever.
